Against a hostile opposition crowd and the inescapable fact that they hadn’t won a game in enemy territory since 2009, in 2014 the New South Wales Blues took Game 1 by the scruff of the neck and proved all those – which was almost everyone – that had said the Blues didn’t stand a chance wrong! Despite the Queensland Maroons coming at the Blues hard in the second half of the match, the Blues managed to withstand the pressure and achieve a gritty 12-8 victory and in the process set-up one of the most highly anticipated Origin Game 2’s for many a year!
